Finksburg, MD
Black Barn Alpacas offers unique, hands-on educational experiences that are perfect for homeschoolers and co-ops. Our guided alpaca tours provide an opportunity to learn about alpaca care, fiber production, and the farm’s daily operations. Homeschool groups can also enjoy interactive activities like feeding the alpacas, and learning about animal behavior. We’re passionate about creating an enriching environment for children to connect with animals and nature, all while supporting their learning outside of the classroom.
Brunswick, MD
Come and visit the Brunswick Heritage Museum! They have free admission. In their building they have a C&O Canal National Park Visitor's Center, which gives information on the C&O Canal. The second floor is all about the history of Brunswick which was really built because of the B&O Railroad. The third floor has a HUGE HO gauge model layout (1700 square feet) depicting the rail line as it went from Brunswick MD to Union Station in the 60's.
Their hours are Saturdays 10-4 and Sunday 1-4.

Step back in time with immersive, outdoor-based learning at the Conococheague Institute! These 2-hour programs let homeschoolers explore Colonial life, 18th-century medicine, early American games, nature walks, farmstead living, and more—all on a historic frontier site. Ideal for ages 6+, group bookings start at $7 per student with a 10-person minimum. Seasonal themes and à la carte options available. Great for hands-on history, nature, and cultural studies.

The price of admission includes up-close visit with our friendly animals, a hayride, a pig race, a large play area with various tractors, slides, riding toys, and two areas where we give you free animal feed. In the month of October, every paid admission includes a pumpkin from the Pumpkin Patch.

Join KID Museum for Explorer Field Trips to better serve students who are learning outside of traditional schools. Led by KID’s expert Maker Educators, these sessions are created to be flexible and dynamic enough to engage learners from 4 through 14.* Build new skills, tackle inventive design challenges, and connect with other homeschool families. Parents or guardians must attend along with their students.

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts has opportunities for a variety of homeschool needs. Come on your own, schedule a field trip, or attend an event! Parking and admission are free. Guided tours can be scheduled and cost as little as $5 per student.

The Maryland Zoo offers engaging field trip experiences for Maryland students, including free admission for public school groups, Head Start programs, and Judy Centers throughout the school year. Homeschool groups can also participate in the grant-funded Free Field Trip Program from early September through late February. We look forward to welcoming you for a wild field trip!

The perfect place for outdoor P. E. or forestry lessons. We offer special rates for Home School Groups and special Home School Days. Ask about our free lesson plans that can be integrated into your climbing visit at the park. Lessons are aligned with learning standards in the Framework for 21st Century Skills. Each Plan comes with a teacher and student guide.
